Maalik Murphy, a backup quarterback at Texas, stepped in and led the Longhorns to 2 Big 12 conference wins this season.
Although it came as a shock, Murphy entered the transfer portal and has found a home at Duke University.

Former Texas coach Duane Akina is on his way back to the 40 acres
Duane Akina, will be leaving Arizona where he is a defensive analyst, to join the Longhorns where he will be a senior analyst, according to reports.
Akina is no stranger to Longhorn football, from 2001 to 2013, Akina served as defensive backs coach on Mack Brown's staff. AKina developed multiple talents and NFL prospects such as Michael Griffin, Cedric Griffin, Earl Thomas, Tarell Brown, Aaron Ross, and Michael Huff.
Although the Longhorns defense was one of the best in the nation this past season, Akina will certainly be a greatly added addition.
Washington Huskies Jabbar Muhammad enters transfer portal
Jabbar Muhammad is arguably the best DB in the transfer portal and is reported to have a visit with the Texas Longhorns.
Texas is a familiar place for Jabbar being that he's a Desoto High School graduate, and his cousin Malik Muhammad was a graduate of South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas, TX, and is currently one of the premier DBs for the Longhorns.
Texas State rolls over Rice for first time bowl win
Texas State forced 7 turnovers and Jehmyl Jeter scored 3 rushing touchdowns to lead the Bobcats to a 45-21 win over Rice in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on Tuesday.
The Bobcats, which were playing in its first FBS bowl game set the FBS program record for wins in a season.
Texas safety Jerrin Thompson entered the transfer portal on Friday. Last season, Thompson had 38 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 7 pass breakups. He received an honorable mention All-Big 12 Honors in 2022.
Playing his high school career at Lufkin (Lufkin, TX), Thompson was a 4-star prospect in 2022.
